Computers
Today isn't my day computer wise. Started off alright, I was intending on washing the windows for mum, listening to my music being blared out through my speakers (as music sometimes does). I go downstairs to just check the internet for any irregularities (this was at around 9:30), and I find the computer doesn't boot. Wonderful. I thought it was something Mum had done to deter me from the computer (you know, take the mouse away, stuff like that). Ok so I though, I'll check all the cords. No, nothing wrong there. I was starting to get a little worried, because the computer doesn't boot up. Normally, when the computer is broken or has something wrong with it, it always comes back to me. As, it's always my fault that it doesn't work because I'm normally the last one on it the night before. Typical parent thing, blame whoever was last one there.
Two things run through my head when a computer doesn't boot.
1) What have I done?
2) Can I fix it before my family members know what has happened.
Those are really my initial thoughts. The ones after are normally: "Oh fuck, everything is lost!", "Fuck, that scratch won't come out". All the normal thoughts one would go through. Anyway, cleared some space on the desk and I opened it up, tried to turn it on and found the CPU fan spins only a tiny bits. I didn't want it to be hardware, so I tried every means possible to get it to boot. Ones like changing power cords, fiddling with the connectors inside of the box. All to no avail. I had on my hands, a dead power supply.
Thinking this was the only bad thing at the time, I called dad up to tell him that he needs to get a new power supply from somewhere. Blah blah blah, anyway, I brought down my machine and I used the power supply from that to test the computer (to make sure it still booted), booted alright. Wanting to play the computer, I moved the power supply to the other computer and I went to boot it up. *Sniff*, Wait, is that something burning? Oh christ, SOMETHING'S BURNING. *Turns off the machine*. This is not good my friends, not good at all. Anything that smells like burning cat hairs isn't good, computers or not. This just isn't my day.
I got over the initial burning smell and waited for it to boot. *Beep*, ok, that beep was needed. *10 seconds later*, Wait, where's the other beep?!. The hard drive doesn't get detected! Hurrah for the crappy power supply! Seems as though the power supply has short circuited and zoomed down the lines and burnt out the hard drive. I tried for half an hour trying to get the thing to boot.
Turns out whatever has happened to the power supply, it reverberated through to the hard drive, causing me to lose everything of mine, and I mean, everything. This time it wasn't the porn (well, I can redownload the movie...), but this time I was more worried about loosing logs, passwords (ones that I never remember), and other random stuff needed for my daily internet need. What is worse, I've lost all my illegal downloads (hehe), all the movies I had (all of 9 movies ^_^), but those movies took a long time to download. (Did I say download? I mean I made a copy of them incase I ever did lose these movies that I "bought").
Oh! To add to the pain of everything dying in one spot, I broke one of my IDE cables. I pulled thr plug right off the ribbon (with my massive amounts of muscle! You must be careful with muscles like these *tenses up*). I'll take some pictures of it tomorrow. But for now, I'm going to have to make do without any music before bed :-(
